While still officially a genin, Sasuke is hailed as a brilliant ninja, even by the battle-adept Uchiha clan's standards, showing an undeniable prodigious talent and keen intellect to excel at all that he does from early childhood. From this, he finds little difficulty in more challenging tasks since his time in the Academy Scoring the highest in the performance tests and one of the highest in written tests, he easily graduated at the top of his Academy class. Sasuke has great knowledge if not proficiency in many of his clan's techniques, despite his lack of formal training by relying solely on his innate talent and determination. His abilities have been compared to various remarkable individuals like Kakashi Hatake, who was also hailed as a genius since childhood. Various powerful shinobi have commented on Sasuke's potential, stating that he can with time surpass the likes of Itachi Uchiha, Nagato, and even Madara Uchiha. Orochimaru also noted that Sasuke is far stronger than he was at the same age when he was training Sasuke in Part II.
Throughout Part I, he steadily develops his abilities, becoming capable of holding his own against various skilled shinobi like Haku, Gaara and even Orochimaru for a short time. By the end of Part I Sasuke's growth allowed him to fight the entire Sound Four for a while and eventually defeat his comrade Naruto, who had shown a similar development throughout Part I and was empowered by Kurama's chakra. By Part II, he develops much of his potential, becoming strong enough to fight on even terms with several highly skilled and extremely powerful shinobi. He was able to defeat Orochimaru, though he downplays his victory and attributes it to the Sannin's weakened state. Sasuke was able to fight evenly against Deidara — a powerful and dangerous S-rank Akatsuki member, and survive without any handicaps. Against Itachi, despite already determining their fights and plagued with illness, the elder brother openly praised Sasuke during their battle, displaying surprise on a few occasions over Sasuke's improved skills and tactics and ultimately noting that if he didn't use Susanoo he would have been killed by Kirin.
After awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan (despite not being fully healed from battling Itachi), Sasuke proved able to stand against Killer B, a jinchūriki and extremely powerful ninja, who praised Sasuke as one of the strongest ninja he has ever faced. After fully healing and adjusting to his Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke proved able to hold his own against at least two Kage, their respective bodyguards and various samurai warriors. He also fought on even grounds with Danzō, another Kage-level opponent, and ultimately defeated him despite the elder's repeated use of Izanagi — a feat that later earned him praise from Itachi. By the time of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sasuke was able to match his older brother in various fields of combat, able to work well with him against Kabuto, who had greatly modified his body and gained numerous abilities.

Hiruzen was one of the most powerful shinobi in history, so much so that he was admired as the God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami) in his prime, and was said to be the strongest Hokage that Konoha has ever had. Even in his old age, he was also said to be the strongest of all the five Kage at the time of his death.[26] During the Fourth Shinobi World War, both Naruto and Sasuke, each becoming highly capable and recognised shinobi themselves, would go on to praise his sheer prowess soon after seeing him in action. He was also the longest living and longest reigning Hokage.
Although he concedes that in his current state, he might not be able to defeat his former student, Orochimaru, Hiruzen remains very confident of his abilities; when confronted with the reincarnated First and Second Hokage, Hiruzen simply told them to prepare to be defeated. During the said battle, Enma commented that Hiruzen's performance was "miserable" compared to his prime, even though he had clearly been able to hold his own against Orochimaru and two former Hokage without losing his composure. Orochimaru even insinuated that if Hiruzen been ten years younger, he would have been killed.

Kakashi is hailed as a natural genius, evidenced by his meteoric rise through the ninja ranks; graduating from the Academy top of his class at age 5, becoming a chūnin at age 6, a jōnin while still a child, and his high status in ANBU. Naruto notes that much of Kakashi's battle prowess and skills is greater than his friends who showed exceptional might in their own specific skills.A match for seemingly any opponent, it was also noted by Tsunade that Kakashi is easily one of Konoha's strongest ninja.His various accomplishments have earned him much renown. and praise by his fellow Konoha ninja and he holds a position of great influence amongst them. He is frequently given responsibility for important tasks, such as watching Naruto in case the seal of the Nine-Tails begins to fail as well as being considered an ideal and one of the most suitable candidates for the position of Hokage by many.
Pain, the most powerful member of Akatsuki, saw Kakashi as a threat that needed to be eradicated to allow his plans to progress. This was later validated in the Fourth Shinobi World War. Kakashi's extensive and varied skill-set allow him to effectively fight or provide invaluable support against opponents of any level. He could fend off powerful missing-nin in Akatsuki or the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and later several "Version 2" state jinchūriki
He also single-handedly defeated in battle the adult Obito Uchiha, a wielder of various famous kekkei genkai and whose tutelage under Madara Uchiha gained him comparable prowess to the legendary Uchiha. He could even handle himself against the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in addition to the Ten-Tails itself

Naruto was an unremarkable student in the Academy and he struggled to perform even basic techniques. He narrowly managed to graduate from the Academy and become an official shinobi after three consecutive failures. His only "ability" of note was the Sexy Technique. While creative and an effective distraction against certain men, the technique had virtually no practical use. Yet sheer perseverance and willpower allowed Naruto to push past this stumbling block, revealing himself as a late bloomer as his true talent showed itself later, enabling Naruto to develop quickly during Part I, learning several complicated jutsu in a short period of time. His performance during the Chūnin Exams impresses many of the same people that knew him as a failure in the Academy; even Sasuke, who was the top of their graduating class, becomes jealous that Naruto is catching up to him so rapidly. Many prominent ninja, both allies and enemies have noted Naruto's great potential growth, Orochimaru in particular viewing Naruto as a great future threat if left alive.
Jiraiya, seeing the same potential that Orochimaru does in Naruto, took the young boy as a student, greatly developing his skills by the start of Part II. Since his return to Konoha in Part II, Naruto continued to go through rapid improvement, mastering increasingly advanced techniques and forms and even devising some long-range techniques to fill the gaps in his repertoire. Through his frequent encounters with powerful shinobi like the Akatsuki, Naruto gains some notoriety, even defeating the leader of Akatsuki, Pain. Konoha has since considered him a hero, which leads his fame to spread to other ninja villages. He is even recognised by the current five Kage, the four previous Hokage, and the ninja world at large as the only person who can save and change the world. Even shinobi such as Madara Uchiha were forced to take him seriously when he fought Naruto. He has also been noted to have surpassed his father and has even been compared to Hashirama Senju several times, with Tobirama even noting that he could become a greater Hokage than Hashirama was. Hashirama himself credited Naruto with their near defeat of Madara.

Upon witnessing Madara's inconceivable might and abilities, a shocked Gaara wondered if Madara had the power of a god. Regardless of his might, Madara still believes that Hashirama is the only person who is capable of stopping him.
