Snake 'eats' man, sets off Internet tizzy
A young American naturalist, filmmaker and adventurer in the Amazon set off an Internet stir after he claimed he offered himself for dinner to a giant snake for a TV show.
"I'm Paul Rosolie and I'm about to be the first person to be eaten alive by an anaconda," he said in a 30-second video on Twitter promoting a new show, "Eaten Alive," to be telecast on the Discovery Channel on December 7.
A longer teaser posted by the network on YouTube shows Rosolie donning "a custom-built snake-proof suit" to enter the belly of the fearsome reptilian beast head-first.
"It's a tease and a promo for now," a Discovery Channel spokesman told AFP on Thursday, adding that further details about the show -- to be aired worldwide by the reality TV cable channel -- would be released "soonish."
On his Twitter feed, Rosolie told his followers: "If u know me - I would never hurt a living thing. But you'll have to watch #EatenAlive to find out how it goes down!"
Social media and tabloid websites jumped on the story, but animal rights group PETA, fearing for the welfare of the snake, demanded that Discovery pull the show.
"Whatever the filmmaker has planned, the snake will likely pay the ultimate price, as animals usually do when they're used for entertainment," it said.
Green anacondas, native to tropical South America, are among the biggest snakes in the world. The one seen in the "Eaten Alive" teaser required at least seven men to hold it.
Earlier this year, Rosolie -- who divides his time between New York, India and Peru -- published a book about his adventures, titled: "Mother of God: An Extraordinary Journey into the Uncharted Tributaries of the Western Amazon."
In 2013 he won a short-film award at the UN Forum on Forests for his documentary "An Unseen World," according to a biographical blurb on the website of publisher Harper Collins.
But PETA dismissed him as "a pseudo 'wildlife expert'."
"Making this snake use up energy by swallowing this fool and then possibly regurgitating him would have left the poor animal exhausted and deprived of the energy that he or she needs," said its deputy general counsel Delcianna Winders.

Mosti to launch its own science TV channel
Watch out NatGeo! A new television channel will be launched by the
Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) by end of this year
to promote its efforts and achievements in the fields of innovation and
science.
Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said the new channel would be quite similar to the National Geographic Channel and would operate 12 hours per day.
"It will be known as either Mosti TV or the Science Channel, we are in the process of discussing the matter with several companies that will cooperate with us to create it," he told reporters after attending the Bioeconomic Transformation Programme Workshop in Banda Hilir here Monday.
In another development, the Deputy Minister said Mosti was also planning to set up an RM500mil fund to repurchase biotechnology products produced using Ministry grants to encourage commercialisation of the products.
"The Ministry will repurchase the products as their first customer," he said.
By doing so, he said the Ministry would enhance public confidence and give assurance that the products were of high quality.
He said the Ministry would apply for an allocation for the fund under the 2015 Budget.

1.priscilla
Priscilla was to be Claymore No. 2 of Teresa's generation and is considered to be the most powerful character in the series, apart from Teresa, surpassing all the Abyssals .
During her time as a Claymore, she possessed incredible potential as a
warrior and, like Teresa, could fight without using her Yoki.
She rose to the position of No.2 after just a few months in the field
and was tasked to assassinate Teresa with the help of fellow
single-digits Irene (current No. 2), Noel (No. 4), and Sophia (No. 3). It was during this mission that she reached her limit and Awakened, becoming one of the main antagonists of the series.

Clare is a female Claymore and the Organization's No. 47 during her generation. She is the main protagonist of the series. New research findings show that Neanderthals lived alongside modern humans for thousands of years – we were practically BFFs, or perhaps 'frenemies
Far from wiping out Neanderthals overnight, modern humans co-existed
with their shorter and stockier cousins for thousands of years, giving
plenty of time for the two groups to share ideas – and even squeeze in a
bit of time for sex.
The most accurate timeline yet for the demise of our closest relatives, published in the journal Nature
on Aug 20, shows that Neanderthals overlapped with present-day humans
in Europe for between 2,600 and 5,400 years before disappearing about
40,000 years ago.
Pinpointing how and when the Neanderthals became extinct has been tough because the mainstay process of radiocarbon dating is unreliable for samples that are more than 30,000 years old, due to contamination. But the latest six-year project by researchers at the University of Oxford uses modern methods to remove contaminants and accurately date nearly 200 samples of bone, charcoal and shell from 40 important archaeological sites across Europe.
Scientists already know from DNA evidence that there was some interbreeding between the two groups, although it’s not clear whether this occurred once or many times. Recent studies have suggested between 1.5% and 2.1% of the DNA of modern non-African human populations originates from Neanderthals. “In a way, our close cousins, as Neanderthals are, aren’t extinct,” according to Higham. “They carry on in us today.”
Paleoanthropologist Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London, who was not involved in the research, says the new findings are “striking” and back up the idea that modern humans and Neanderthals may have learnt from each other. He believes interbreeding probably first occurred in Asia soon after modern humans began to leave Africa around 60,000 years ago, so the latest evidence indicates the two populations may have been in some kind of contact for up to 20,000 years – much longer than in Europe alone.

Extra supermoon' makes appearance after typhoon
Hours after Typhoon No. 11 petered out, the night skies cleared to reveal a rare lunar phenomenon known as "extra supermoon."
This occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth during its elliptical orbit and coincides with a new or full moon phase.
NASA called the Aug. 11 event an "extra supermoon" because the full moon was at its zenith in the same hour that it was at its closet point to the Earth, an even rarer occurrence.
As the clouds began to part over Fukuoka's Chuo Ward, moonlight cast a glow over the city just before 3 a.m.
The next supermoon will occur Sept. 9, the day after Japanese harvest moon viewing celebrations.

Family finds girl lost in tsunami 10 years ago
More than 10 years after a tsunami swept her away from her parents, Raudhatul Jannah is back in their arms again.
Raudhatul was only 4 when her home in Indonesia was destroyed by a 2004 tsunami that killed some 230,000. After the tsunami struck, her father put her and her 7-year-old brother onto a board in the water, but then a "wave hit and I lost them," he recounts to DPA.
"We looked for them among ... piles of bodies, but we didn't find them," he says. "After one month we resigned ourselves to the thought that they had probably died."
Raudhatul, however, was very much alive. A fisherman found her washed ashore on a remote island, then took her back to the mainland, where he and his mother raised her, reports AFP. That is, until her uncle spotted her in June, was struck by the resemblance to his niece, and unraveled her true identity.
"I'm
happy to back with my mother and father again," Raudhatul says. "This
is a miracle from God," her mother adds, and "if anyone is in doubt, I'm
ready for DNA tests."

1.sailor cosmos
Sailor Cosmos was a character who played an important part in the Stars arc of the Sailor Moon manga, where she was revealed to be the true form of Chibi Chibi (who had very different origins in the anime).
After Sailor Galaxia's death, Chibi Chibi revealed to Sailor Moon that her true form was in fact Sailor Cosmos. Her future, as told to the Sailor Quartet, was not a hopeful one - Sailor Chaos
waged war against the universe, and everything and everyone Sailor
Cosmos knew was destroyed to the point where nothing could be salvaged
even if the war ended. Upset, scared, and unable to do anything, Sailor
Cosmos ran away from her future, opting to go into the past to destroy Chaos before it achieved its terrible Senshi form.
To destroy Chaos, she decided that she also had to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron, and so in the form of Chibi Chibi she tried to guide her past self, Eternal Sailor Moon, towards that end. Even though Eternal Sailor Moon was determined to save the Cauldron and chose a different path, she nevertheless inspired hope in Sailor Cosmos with her power and courage. She stated that the Eternal Sailor Moon who had saved the galaxy was, in fact, the true form of Sailor Cosmos, and that once she had that same courage and strength, only then would she truly be Sailor Cosmos.
What happened to Sailor Cosmos after she sent the Sailor Quartet to the future in Act 52 was not specifically stated. She said that she would return to her own future, inspired by Sailor Moon's strength, and that she would resume her fight in order to reclaim the mantle that she lost with her cowardice.
Sailor Cosmos' nature was not entirely clear, and her appearances in Act 51 and Act 52 brought forth more questions than answers. It was stated by Sailor Ceres that she was the ultimate future form of Sailor Moon, but it was unclear whether Sailor Cosmos was the future self of the current Sailor Moon (thus making her Usagi's next incarnation after Neo-Queen Serenity), a reincarnation of the current Sailor Moon, a descendant of the current Sailor Moon, or even Sailor Moon from an alternate future. Naoko Takeuchi herself seemed to imply when questioned that Cosmos' true identity was intended to be ambiguous to everyone, including herself.
2.sailor galaxia
In the anime, Sailor Galaxia was the most powerful Sailor Senshi in the galaxy, and as such fought in the Sailor Wars against Chaos. In the great final battle, she trapped Chaos and sealed it within herself in order to save the galaxy. However, Chaos was too strong for her and she realized that it would gradually overwhelm her. In order to protect herself against that threat, she removed her Star Seed and sent it out into the universe, telling it to find someone who would welcome it warmly.
As she fell under Chaos' influence, Sailor Galaxia began to attack planets in the galaxy, destroying them and taking the true Star Seeds belonging to other Sailor Senshi. She gathered followers, the Sailor Animamates, in order to help her with this mission.
In the meantime, her Star Seed travelled long and far before it finally reached the Earth and found Usagi Tsukino. It then took the form of Chibi Chibi and masqueraded as Usagi's sister. However, Galaxia's Star Seed was the Light of Hope that Princess Kakyuu and the Sailor Starlights were searching for in order to defeat the legendary Senshi. With the help of the Light of Hope, Princess Serenity fought against Sailor Galaxia, and finally managed to free her from Chaos' influence. Galaxia then departed, leading all of the Star Seeds she had collected back to where they belonged.
3.eternal sailormoon
In this form her fuku underwent the most radical changes; she no longer
wore a tiara with a gold crescent moon on her forehead taking its place,
her earrings now had a star at the bottom of each crescent moon. The
choker is red with a dark yellowish orange heart and a gold crescent
moon under it while wearing the same white wing barrettes in her hair.
The collar itself is like her old one, yet its color is a dark blue with
two gold stripes and in place of her shoulder pads, she wore short
solid pink bubble-like sleeves with a red band at the end. In the place
of her front bow she had a gold heart with a crescent moon at the bottom
with what appears to be four angel wings comes out of it. Her gloves
are the same as before, but with a red v-shape border on it along with a
golden star. Her skirt is attached to her top in a red v-shape with a
crescent in the center of the v along with three layers on it; the top
layer is yellow, the middle layer is red and the bottom layer is blue.
Her back bow had been replaced with a huge set of angel wings and two
very long and thin red ribbons trailing down from them. Her boots were
now knee length with v-shape borders with a crescent moon on them.
4.sailor saturn
Sailor Saturn's dominant color was purple (choker, collar, elbow
fittings of gloves, skirt, and boots), and her accent colors were white
(tiara gem, earrings, front middle of choker, and center of front bow)
and maroon (front and back bows). Her choker had a white six-pointed
star, her collar had no stripes, her shoulder pads resembled flower
petals, and the center of her front bow was a white crystal, similar in
appearance to Pure Heart Crystals. Her gloves were elbow length with
elbow fittings unique among the Senshi. Her boots were knee high and
laced up in the front.
Sailor Cosmos was a character who played an important part in the Stars arc of the Sailor Moon manga, where she was revealed to be the true form of Chibi Chibi (who had very different origins in the anime).
After Sailor Galaxia's death, Chibi Chibi revealed to Sailor Moon that her true form was in fact Sailor Cosmos. Her future, as told to the Sailor Quartet, was not a hopeful one - Sailor Chaos
waged war against the universe, and everything and everyone Sailor
Cosmos knew was destroyed to the point where nothing could be salvaged
even if the war ended. Upset, scared, and unable to do anything, Sailor
Cosmos ran away from her future, opting to go into the past to destroy Chaos before it achieved its terrible Senshi form.
To destroy Chaos, she decided that she also had to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron, and so in the form of Chibi Chibi she tried to guide her past self, Eternal Sailor Moon, towards that end. Even though Eternal Sailor Moon was determined to save the Cauldron and chose a different path, she nevertheless inspired hope in Sailor Cosmos with her power and courage. She stated that the Eternal Sailor Moon who had saved the galaxy was, in fact, the true form of Sailor Cosmos, and that once she had that same courage and strength, only then would she truly be Sailor Cosmos.
What happened to Sailor Cosmos after she sent the Sailor Quartet to the future in Act 52 was not specifically stated. She said that she would return to her own future, inspired by Sailor Moon's strength, and that she would resume her fight in order to reclaim the mantle that she lost with her cowardice.
Sailor Cosmos' nature was not entirely clear, and her appearances in Act 51 and Act 52 brought forth more questions than answers. It was stated by Sailor Ceres that she was the ultimate future form of Sailor Moon, but it was unclear whether Sailor Cosmos was the future self of the current Sailor Moon (thus making her Usagi's next incarnation after Neo-Queen Serenity), a reincarnation of the current Sailor Moon, a descendant of the current Sailor Moon, or even Sailor Moon from an alternate future. Naoko Takeuchi herself seemed to imply when questioned that Cosmos' true identity was intended to be ambiguous to everyone, including herself.

In the anime, Sailor Galaxia was the most powerful Sailor Senshi in the galaxy, and as such fought in the Sailor Wars against Chaos. In the great final battle, she trapped Chaos and sealed it within herself in order to save the galaxy. However, Chaos was too strong for her and she realized that it would gradually overwhelm her. In order to protect herself against that threat, she removed her Star Seed and sent it out into the universe, telling it to find someone who would welcome it warmly.
As she fell under Chaos' influence, Sailor Galaxia began to attack planets in the galaxy, destroying them and taking the true Star Seeds belonging to other Sailor Senshi. She gathered followers, the Sailor Animamates, in order to help her with this mission.
In the meantime, her Star Seed travelled long and far before it finally reached the Earth and found Usagi Tsukino. It then took the form of Chibi Chibi and masqueraded as Usagi's sister. However, Galaxia's Star Seed was the Light of Hope that Princess Kakyuu and the Sailor Starlights were searching for in order to defeat the legendary Senshi. With the help of the Light of Hope, Princess Serenity fought against Sailor Galaxia, and finally managed to free her from Chaos' influence. Galaxia then departed, leading all of the Star Seeds she had collected back to where they belonged.

He can cook, play music, use a computer - and make sarcastic jokes chatting with his 3,000-word vocabulary: My lunch with the world's cleverest chimp
He’s just had to sit through his
offspring’s fourth birthday party, with the youngster tearing open his
presents and jumping all over daddy’s head in his excitement. So I can
understand the expression of weariness on Kanzi’s face when I ask him
what he wants for lunch.
Then someone mentions the word ‘omelette’ — a Kanzi favourite, not just to eat but even to cook — and he’s off. He clambers on to a ledge in the viewing room of his concrete, steel and glass home and positions himself in front of a large, touch-sensitive computer screen showing a grid of some 400 symbols, or ‘lexigrams’, each representing a particular object or idea.
A huge forefinger skims dextrously over the icons, pressing the ones he wants. The computer voices his selections with an American accent.
He summons eggs, onions, lettuce, grapes, pineapple. His four-year-old son, Teco, comes up behind and presses ‘M&Ms’, pointing at a table behind me where, just visible, there is indeed a bag of the sweets.
Smart kid — he’ll go far.
‘Do you like M&Ms, Kanzi?’ I ask. Kanzi shoots me a withering look — one of many — that seems to say ‘What sort of bloody idiotic question is that?’
Not since I asked the actor Kevin Costner if it was true that he was in a relationship with the model Carla Bruni has an interview been this tricky.
Winningly charming and jaw-droppingly accomplished as he may be, this pygmy chimp (or bonobo) — a fire-starting, tool-making, marshmallow-toasting marvel of the animal world — isn’t going to make my job any easier.
And why should he? This remarkable creature is a superstar. For years he has been changing the way we humans think about our relatives in the animal world, and challenging our assumed superiority to them.
The bonobo is a more gentle and intelligent cousin of the chimpanzee. Its only natural homeland is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bonobos are our closest animal relative (sharing about 99 per cent of our DNA) and physically resemble our distant ancestors.
Kanzi, now 33, has been fully immersed in the human world, and the English language, since birth. Scientists who have studied Kanzi all his life say he possesses a vocabulary big enough to follow and contribute to simple conversations.
He has learned to ‘say’ about 500 words through the keyboard and understands about 3,000 of them. Equally importantly, he was the first primate who didn’t acquire language through direct training.
Instead, much like a human child, he picked it up simply by listening as researchers tried to teach his foster mother. (Teco is now doing the same by watching his father.)
Through a mixture of observation and encouragement, Kanzi has also picked up an astonishing set of manual skills.
