Missing women' loom over India's art fair

Large black figures cast in steel loomed over the India Art Fair as it opened on Friday with the display of the eerie silhouettes seeking to highlight the country's millions of "missing" women.
The outdoor installation called M.I.S.S.I.N.G. by artist Leena Kejriwal is a visual response to alarming research showing a gaping gender gap in India, which has led to severe imbalances in some parts of the country.
Caused by sex-selective abortion, infanticide and the death of girls through neglect, the issue is part of a national debate about women's rights sparked by fresh scrutiny of sexual violence.
The three outsized sculptures are meant to be "like sharp, black holes cut out of the sky. Holes into which millions of girls disappear from the face of this earth," according to Kejriwal's description of the project.
India's 2011 census data showed that just 914 girls are born nationwide per 1,000 boys -- much behind the global benchmark of 952 -- reflecting a cultural preference for male heirs.
The India Art fair has been phenomenally successful since its first edition in 2008 and now draws leading local and international galleries and artists, as well as hundreds of thousands of members of the public.
This year organisers signalled their intent to tackle some of the issues thrown up by the sweeping changes underway in the world's biggest democracy, wrought by economic development and globalisation.
Another public photo display challenges a recent Supreme Court decision which has recriminalised gay sex by reinstating a 1860 colonial law that outlaws "carnal intercourse against the order of nature."
"We are in a state of flux, in a state of change and the art is responding to that," Art Fair founder Neha Kirpal told AFP.
"There is a degree of freshness and energy, a degree of revolt and rebellion sometimes. The art reflects the mood and energy of the country," she added.
The Indian market is still far off its peaks of 2008 when the global financial crisis led to a sharp fall in prices, leaving many investors who had rushed into the young art scene badly burned.
The market for top-end pieces by established modern artists remains strong -- as demonstrated by a recent record Christie's auction in Mumbai -- but prices for the rest are still depressed, experts say.
In 2010, the United Nations Development Programme said that Asia was "missing" about 96 million women -- the vast majority in China and India -- who died from discriminatory healthcare and neglect or who were never born at all.
India has seen its women's rights movement gain confidence over the past year in response to a string of horrifying sex crimes reported in the media, starting with the gang-rape of a student on a New Delhi bus in December 2012.

Japan's Shameful Butchery of Dolphins

Since the release in 2009 of the chilling documentary The Cove, and thanks to a much-welcomed tweet last week from newly minted U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy condemning the "drive hunt," the herding and butchering of dolphins in the small inlet in Taiji, Japan, is unlikely to go unnoticed.  Last week, fishermen captured and trapped 250 bottlenose dolphins, and they killed 30 of them just yesterday.
Coveforblog800wi

The drive hunt is barbaric. The fishermen use small motorized boats to locate pods of dolphins and other small whales, and begin herding the animals toward shore, using the noise of the boats' engines and the banging of pipes underwater. There are reports, too, of the use of underwater explosives. Once the animals are on the shore or in the shallow bay, fishermen then get into the waist-deep water and move through the pods, stabbing animals to death, in full view of the other pod members. These highly intelligent animals are slaughtered for meat, pet food, and fertilizer. The fishermen spare the best specimens and sell them to marine parks, consigning them to a less violent but still grim fate, abducted from their families, never to return to their natural homes, and sentenced to life in concrete tanks.
In the late 1980s, marine parks and aquariums (including U.S. parks) and the U.S. Navy began purchasing live animals from Japan, paying many thousands of dollars for each animal. This contributed to the profit-making of the Taiji hunters. In 1993, a California marine park sought to import several dolphins from Japan, but the U.S. government stipulated that the dolphins could only be imported if they had been captured "humanely."  Because the capture violated the conditions of the permit, the government prohibited the import. Since then, no dolphins have been imported into the U.S. from Japan.  However, there are other markets and willing buyers to take the animals, mainly in Asia and the Middle East.
Bottlenose

In response to all this, there have been global demonstrations, boycotts, congressional resolutions, the global distribution of The Cove, and most recently, Ambassador Kennedy's courageous statement. All the while, Japanese officials have defended the slaughter and capture as their cultural right, retorting that U.S. citizens eat beef and hunt animals for sport. The Taiji hunt, whilst the most notorious, is one of a number of hunts of dolphins and small whales conducted in Japanese waters. In any one year, in combination, these hunts may claim the lives of some 20,000 cetaceans.
But there has been some progress in Japan. A growing number of supermarkets in Japan have stopped selling whale and dolphin meat, including AEON, Ito-Yokado (7-Eleven's parent corporation), Seiyu, and more. In addition, our supporters have helped us end the sale of dolphin meat on Internet market sites like Amazon and Google. However, Yahoo! Japan continues to sell whale and dolphin meat products.
The government of Japan is ultimately responsible for the killing of these highly intelligent marine mammals, known well to us for their heroic efforts to protect drowning seafarers or to protect swimmers from sharks. We can help repay these creatures for their long-standing, documented record of altruism by continuing to bring pressure on those who profit from this spectacle in Japan.  In the end, we must act together make it plain that it's only a tiny fraction of people in the world who would exhibit such callousness and cruelty to animals who deserve so much better from our species.

top 5 most powerful naruto character

5 sasuke uchiha
skill
While still officially a genin, Sasuke is hailed as a brilliant ninja, even by the battle-adept Uchiha clan's standards, showing an undeniable prodigious talent and keen intellect to excel at all that he does from early childhood. From this, he finds little difficulty in more challenging tasks since his time in the Academy Scoring the highest in the performance tests and one of the highest in written tests, he easily graduated at the top of his Academy class. Sasuke has great knowledge if not proficiency in many of his clan's techniques, despite his lack of formal training by relying solely on his innate talent and determination. His abilities have been compared to various remarkable individuals like Kakashi Hatake, who was also hailed as a genius since childhood. Various powerful shinobi have commented on Sasuke's potential, stating that he can with time surpass the likes of Itachi Uchiha, Nagato, and even Madara Uchiha. Orochimaru also noted that Sasuke is far stronger than he was at the same age when he was training Sasuke in Part II.
Throughout Part I, he steadily develops his abilities, becoming capable of holding his own against various skilled shinobi like Haku, Gaara and even Orochimaru for a short time. By the end of Part I Sasuke's growth allowed him to fight the entire Sound Four for a while and eventually defeat his comrade Naruto, who had shown a similar development throughout Part I and was empowered by Kurama's chakra. By Part II, he develops much of his potential, becoming strong enough to fight on even terms with several highly skilled and extremely powerful shinobi. He was able to defeat Orochimaru, though he downplays his victory and attributes it to the Sannin's weakened state. Sasuke was able to fight evenly against Deidara — a powerful and dangerous S-rank Akatsuki member, and survive without any handicaps. Against Itachi, despite already determining their fights and plagued with illness, the elder brother openly praised Sasuke during their battle, displaying surprise on a few occasions over Sasuke's improved skills and tactics and ultimately noting that if he didn't use Susanoo he would have been killed by Kirin.
After awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan (despite not being fully healed from battling Itachi), Sasuke proved able to stand against Killer B, a jinchūriki and extremely powerful ninja, who praised Sasuke as one of the strongest ninja he has ever faced. After fully healing and adjusting to his Mangekyō Sharingan, Sasuke proved able to hold his own against at least two Kage, their respective bodyguards and various samurai warriors. He also fought on even grounds with Danzō, another Kage-level opponent, and ultimately defeated him despite the elder's repeated use of Izanagi — a feat that later earned him praise from Itachi. By the time of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Sasuke was able to match his older brother in various fields of combat, able to work well with him against Kabuto, who had greatly modified his body and gained numerous abilities.

no.4
hiruzen sarutobi

Hiruzen was one of the most powerful shinobi in history, so much so that he was admired as the God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami) in his prime, and was said to be the strongest Hokage that Konoha has ever had. Even in his old age, he was also said to be the strongest of all the five Kage at the time of his death.[26] During the Fourth Shinobi World War, both Naruto and Sasuke, each becoming highly capable and recognised shinobi themselves, would go on to praise his sheer prowess soon after seeing him in action. He was also the longest living and longest reigning Hokage.
Although he concedes that in his current state, he might not be able to defeat his former student, Orochimaru, Hiruzen remains very confident of his abilities; when confronted with the reincarnated First and Second Hokage, Hiruzen simply told them to prepare to be defeated. During the said battle, Enma commented that Hiruzen's performance was "miserable" compared to his prime, even though he had clearly been able to hold his own against Orochimaru and two former Hokage without losing his composure. Orochimaru even insinuated that if Hiruzen been ten years younger, he would have been killed.

no.3 hatake kakashi

Kakashi is hailed as a natural genius, evidenced by his meteoric rise through the ninja ranks; graduating from the Academy top of his class at age 5, becoming a chūnin at age 6, a jōnin while still a child, and his high status in ANBU. Naruto notes that much of Kakashi's battle prowess and skills is greater than his friends who showed exceptional might in their own specific skills.A match for seemingly any opponent, it was also noted by Tsunade that Kakashi is easily one of Konoha's strongest ninja. His various accomplishments have earned him much renown. and praise by his fellow Konoha ninja and he holds a position of great influence amongst them. He is frequently given responsibility for important tasks, such as watching Naruto in case the seal of the Nine-Tails begins to fail as well as being considered an ideal and one of the most suitable candidates for the position of Hokage by many.
Pain, the most powerful member of Akatsuki, saw Kakashi as a threat that needed to be eradicated to allow his plans to progress. This was later validated in the Fourth Shinobi World War. Kakashi's extensive and varied skill-set allow him to effectively fight or provide invaluable support against opponents of any level. He could fend off powerful missing-nin in Akatsuki or the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and later several "Version 2" state jinchūriki
He also single-handedly defeated in battle the adult Obito Uchiha, a wielder of various famous kekkei genkai and whose tutelage under Madara Uchiha gained him comparable prowess to the legendary Uchiha. He could even handle himself against the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in addition to the Ten-Tails itself

 no.2 uzumaki naruto

Naruto was an unremarkable student in the Academy and he struggled to perform even basic techniques. He narrowly managed to graduate from the Academy and become an official shinobi after three consecutive failures. His only "ability" of note was the Sexy Technique. While creative and an effective distraction against certain men, the technique had virtually no practical use. Yet sheer perseverance and willpower allowed Naruto to push past this stumbling block, revealing himself as a late bloomer as his true talent showed itself later, enabling Naruto to develop quickly during Part I, learning several complicated jutsu in a short period of time. His performance during the Chūnin Exams impresses many of the same people that knew him as a failure in the Academy; even Sasuke, who was the top of their graduating class, becomes jealous that Naruto is catching up to him so rapidly. Many prominent ninja, both allies and enemies have noted Naruto's great potential growth, Orochimaru in particular viewing Naruto as a great future threat if left alive.
Jiraiya, seeing the same potential that Orochimaru does in Naruto, took the young boy as a student, greatly developing his skills by the start of Part II. Since his return to Konoha in Part II, Naruto continued to go through rapid improvement, mastering increasingly advanced techniques and forms and even devising some long-range techniques to fill the gaps in his repertoire. Through his frequent encounters with powerful shinobi like the Akatsuki, Naruto gains some notoriety, even defeating the leader of Akatsuki, Pain. Konoha has since considered him a hero, which leads his fame to spread to other ninja villages. He is even recognised by the current five Kage, the four previous Hokage, and the ninja world at large as the only person who can save and change the world. Even shinobi such as Madara Uchiha were forced to take him seriously when he fought Naruto. He has also been noted to have surpassed his father and has even been compared to Hashirama Senju several times, with Tobirama even noting that he could become a greater Hokage than Hashirama was. Hashirama himself credited Naruto with their near defeat of Madara.

no.1 madara uchiha
Madara is considered by many notable individuals to be one of the most gifted shinobi in history and the most powerful shinobi that the Uchiha clan has ever produced, whose's name was so terrifying that Tobi's use of it was enough the drag the entire world to war.Even as a young child and by his battle-adept clan's standards, Madara was recognised as very skilled prodigy as he managed to kill several older, more experienced, and powerful shinobi of the Senju clan; and had not even awakened his Sharingan yet.By the Fourth Shinobi World War, his power was so great he wiped out most of the Fourth Division of the Allied Forces and required the combined efforts of the Five Kage to counter, and they were still defeated despite Madara imposing multiple restrictions on himself.
Upon witnessing Madara's inconceivable might and abilities, a shocked Gaara wondered if Madara had the power of a god. Regardless of his might, Madara still believes that Hashirama is the only person who is capable of stopping him.

true faith flowers from and through doubt.

If you never questioned your beliefs, - you are just a puppet dancing to somebody's strings. If God had wanted your mindless obedience, you would've been created without mind and without free will. But you have both so you can come to God of your own accord. Just look at the lives of saints, - most of them had gone through a dark night of the soul, and that's why their faith was so strong. The path to true faith always goes through doubt. So ask those questions you've always been afraid to ask, and find the answers, and then your faith will become unshakable

Penang sets up committee to oversee public artwork, murals

The popularity of murals in the heritage city of George Town is not without its "side effects".
Because they are so popular, building owners have allowed murals to be painted on their external walls to attract tourists and customers. Sometimes, it is even done without the approval of the local authorities.
To prevent the situation from getting out of hand, the George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) is setting up a special committee soon to manage and control public murals in the heritage zone.
GTWHI general manager Lim Chooi Ping said the committee, which will also comprise representatives from the relevant authorities and individuals with art background and expertise, will evaluate applications for new murals or other forms of public art.
This is not to curb the freedom of artistic expression but to avoid having artworks that do not go with the image and ambience of the Unesco world heritage city, she said.
"It is crucial to safeguard the important universal values of the heritage city, which is unique. There has to be some form of control to make sure that any public artwork does not damage the value of George Town's heritage.
"So, it is best to have a special committee that can assess the artwork proposals," she said today.
Lim said a set of criteria will be drawn up but each application will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
"The committee will have to discuss the merits of the proposed artwork. It will be hard to go by a fixed guideline because there may be a proposal that does not fit into the framework.
"As we know, art comes in various forms and is very subjective and can be interpreted differently," she said.
Public art has been a hit in Penang in recent years. Murals and installation art are made popular by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic, who painted a series of children-themed murals in the city for the George Town Festival in 2012.
His work dubbed Children On A Bicycle on Lebuh Armenian in the heritage zone has even attracted tourists from around the world

CM urges Muslims to embrace moderation

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman urged Muslims in the state to embrace the moderation or 'wasatiyyah' approach adopted by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to study the biography of the Prophet to be used as a lifelong model.
Besides possessing good character and personality, the community must also emulate the competitive spirit shown by the Prophet in attaining Islamic excellence and success.
"This includes efficiency in the political and administrative system, economic success and social justice," he said at the Sabah State-Level Maulidur Rasul Gathering at the Tawau Municipal Council Field, here today.
He said the birth of the Prophet PBUH as portrayed by Allah SWT in the Al-Quran was a "blessing to the whole world" and had translated many important messages, examples and teachings to all Muslims.
"If we look at history and current world developments, many nations that previously formed major powers and were rich in natural resources and were respected, had become weak due to internal conflicts which dragged on between them.
"Although we live in a multi-racial, multi-religion and multi-cultural society, we could develop the state together in a harmonious and united environment because we respect each other and accept the uniqueness and differences as our common strength," he added.

Dr weir from event horizon was by possessed c'tan or known as star god and the ship event horizon was entering the necron homeworld

Dr weir from event horizon movie was  possessed by c'tan or known as star god

recently i was reading old script film from event horizon movie, during  reading stumble a dialogue from the movie that said this:
I'm not the Devil. I'm much, much
older. I watched the Beginning and I
will see the End. I am the dark behind
the stars. I am the dark inside you
	all.

i when read this in my mind was thinking dr weir was being possessed by ancient evil being known as star god

or more precisely one of them possessed him and the ship event horizon in the movie. the star god that posssesed the ship was

Aza'gorod the Nightbringer here little information about him:

Aza'gorod the Nightbringer was one of the omnipotent beings known as the C'tan, who delighted in inflicting pain and suffering not only to feed on the life enrgies of mortals, but simply because it could. The Nightbringer has destroyed entire star systems on a whim and gorged itself on the death agonies of countless billions of lives. The very star under which the Necrontyr race lived their brief, morbid lives gave birth to the vast sun-spanning entity of pure energy that was the Nightbringer, the first of the C'tan to be contacted by the Necrontyr, the intelligent species that ultimately became the Necrons,. This was because Aza'gorod inhabited the Necrontyr's home star, feeding on a steady diet of bland but nourishing solar energy. The Nightbringer was also the first of the C'tan to enter a Necrodermis body prepared for him by the Necrontyr so that he could interact with the matter of the physical universe. The Nightbringer, like the other C'tan, found the souls of living, intelligent beings much more "tasty" than the raw energy of the stars he had been feeding off of for millions of Terran years. The Nightbringer massacred the Necrontyr after being transferred into his new body to feed upon their souls and was only stopped from further feeding upon that race to its extinction by a heavy dose of persuasion and pledges of eternal servitude. During the War in

Heaven between the Old Ones and their allies and the C'tan and their Necron

servants, the Eldar war god Kaela Mensha Khaine fought the Nightbringer and

destroyed him, shattering his Necrodermis host body into countless shards. These shards impaled Khaine, tainting him forever, while the Nightbringer simply transferred his essence into another Necrodermis body that had been prepared for him by the Necron.

another interested thing is about the vision of hell that dr weir show was not

hell

but necron home planet and where ctan Aza'gorod the Nightbringer was reside and

according to warhammer 40k

Aza'gorod the Nightbringer love to eat mortal soul

and inflicting pain&torture,

this is could be the reason why

first crew was slaughter each other,

it because Aza'gorod the Nightbringer

has ability

seed image of fear and death to it victim.

Life on Earth-like planets can exist at least ten times farther away from their stars than previously thought, scientists found, putting in question our whole perspective on habitable zone distances.
A new paper published in the journal, Planetary and Space Science, describes how living organisms have just as much chance of surviving in areas below their uninhabitable planets’ surfaces.
This includes planets a staggering distance away from their stars, as well as even those that were recently discovered to be drifting in space by themselves, with no apparent host star.
The previous commonly accepted assertion was that the so-called ‘Goldilocks’ zone was a requirement. It is the zone both far away and near enough to its star to provide the kind of climate capable of sustaining life. In our understanding, it should support water that is neither boiling hot nor frozen.
Now a team of researchers from Aberdeen and St. Andrews universities has an updated view of things. PhD student Sean McMahon, author of the paper, says “that theory fails to take into account life that can exist beneath a planet's surface. As you get deeper …the temperature increases, and once you get down to a temperature where liquid water can exist – life can exist there too.”
To prove this, the scientists devised a computer model to cleverly approximate temperatures below the surfaces of planets by inputting the distance to their respective stars and crossing that with the planet’s size.
Using that model they discovered that the radius around a star, capable of supporting life, increased three-fold if new data on depth at which life can exist below the surface of a given planet were taken into account.
"The deepest known life on Earth is 5.3 km below the surface, but there may well be life even 10 km deep in places on Earth that haven't yet been drilled,” McMahon said.
What adds to the excitement is that the model allows for potentially expanding the habitable zone even more. If indeed we do find life 10km below the Earth’s surface, the math tells us that Earth-like planets could support life as far as 14 times the distance previously considered to be the Goldilocks zone.
To put this into perspective – our current habitable zone is considered to reach out as far as Mars. But new measurements that account for life existing under rocky surfaces take that radius as far as Jupiter and Saturn.
For example, the recently discovered Gliese 581 d could be a candidate. Sure, it is about 20 trillion kilometers away, but its cold surface could well hide life a couple of kilometers below the surface, scientists assume.
Scientists are excited at the subsurface theory on sustaining life. We can now widen our search for life, they hope, adding that the new findings are so radical that the fact of life on Earth (which itself is very different from the thousands of planets we know about) could itself be anomalous because life receives much more protection inside a warm, mineral-rich rock than risking survival on its inhospitable surface.

Rare conjoined whale calves found in Mexico

Fishermen have found the remains of two conjoined grey whale calves in a north-western Mexican lagoon.
The four-metre long whales were dead when they were found in the Ojo de Liebre lagoon, which opens to the Pacific Ocean in the Baja California peninsula.
Officials from the National Natural Protected Areas Commission verified the discovery during a visit on Monday.

The nearly half-tonne creatures were linked at the waist, with two full heads and tail fins, said Benito Bermudez, a marine biologist and the commission's regional manager.
He described the discovery as "exceptionally rare, without any precedent" in the region.
Scientists are examining the whales and plan to look for any other cases in the grey whale's natural sanctuaries off Baja California.

Every winter, hundreds of grey whales migrate from the Bering Sea to the warmer waters of Baja California, attracting tourists hoping to catch a glimpse of the animals.
Nearly 1200 grey whales were spotted in the region in the 2012-2013 season.
