gundam physalis

During its military reconstruction following the devastating One Year War, the Earth Federation contracts a private company, Anaheim Electronics, to develop a series of new Gundam-model mobile suits to serve as conceptual testbeds for new and improved mobile suit technology. One of the first prototypes to come out of Anaheim's Von Braun City lunar factory is the RX-78GP02A Gundam, code-named "Physalis." Built expressly for tactical nuclear warfare, the GP02A's primary armament is a large atomic bazooka, capable of launching a strategic-use Mark-82 nuclear warhead. The GP02A is also heavily armored enough to withstand the nuclear blast unleashed by its bazooka, and even carries a shield large enough to provide extra protection for most of the unit's body and contains cooling systems to help dissipate the heat it absorbs. The shield also carries the trigger and barrel for the atomic bazooka when it's not deployed for use. The GP02A is also designed to survive in close combat, being armed with standard head vulcan guns and a pair of beam sabers. With enough thrusters and verniers to keep it fast and agile despite its mass, the GP02A is truly "tactical" in a sense, though its use has "strategic" consequences for the Earth Sphere.

The GP02A and another prototype, the RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes", along with Anaheim systems engineer Nina Purpleton and her team of technicians, are brought aboard the assault carrier Albion to be delivered to Earth for testing under full gravity in October UC 0083. Arriving at the Torrington Base in Australia for the field trials, the GP02A is loaded with a nuclear warhead, but is immediately hijacked by Zeon remnants led by Anavel Gato. In the weeks to follow, Gato escapes into space with his stolen Gundam, joining up with Admiral Aiguille Delaz's fleet for a critical roll in their "Operation Stardust." To diffuse the Delaz threat, the Federation Forces carry out their naval review ceremony, assembling most of the entire Federation fleet at the Konpeitoh asteroid base in a show of force. However, this is a primary target of Operation Stardust, and Gato uses the GP02A's nuclear warhead to single-handedly destroy or disable two-thirds of the fleet stationed there. The GP02A is subsequently destroyed in a duel with the RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam Full Vernian "Zephyranthes", although both pilots survive.

 RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam Full Vernian "Zephyranthes"
Although the RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" mobile suit is intended to be upgraded for use in space, the uprising of Zeon remnants in October UC 0083 moves this project up considerably. The GP01, not being properly calibrated for space combat, is critically damaged by Zeon forces when its pilot, Kou Uraki, carelessly takes the mobile suit out into battle. The damaged GP01 is immediately taken to Anaheim Electronics' Von Braun City factory on the Moon to be repaired and reconfigured for space use. Soon after, the rebuilt and improved RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam Full Vernian "Zephyranthes" is rolled out and goes through a rapid battery of test trials before being redeployed aboard the Federation assault carrier Albion in pursuit of the stolen Gundam GP02A. The Full Vernian GP01 is a tremendous improvement over its original form, almost doubling its acceleration and with a marked increase in maneuverability. It also features an improved space-use version of its Core Fighter II, incorporating the mobile suit's large thruster- and vernier-laden backpack into its design. Following the nuclear attack on Konpeitoh, the GP01Fb is destroyed in a final duel with the GP02A.

MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam
The Gryps Conflict sees the introduction of many new experimental mobile suit technologies. Anti-Earth Union Group pilot Kamille Bidan, being a mobile suit design hobbyist, begins designing a next-generation mobile suit for himself. With the aid of AEUG chief mechanic Astonaige Medoz, Kamille's design so impresses the engineers at Anaheim Electronics that they volunteer to build the suit for him under the flag of the AEUG's "Project Zeta." Initial tests occur on a non-transformable version, the MSZ-006-X1 Prototype Zeta Gundam X1. Called the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam ("Z" being read as the Greek "zeta"), this unit represents many of the changes in mobile suit design philosophies occurring at the time.

Inspired by the RX-178 Gundam Mark II's "movable frame" design, the Zeta Gundam is also built around a movable frame capable of transforming the mobile suit into a fighter-like form called a "waverider." This VMSAWRS (Variable Mobile Suit and WaveRider System) unit not only gives the Zeta Gundam added speed and mobility in waverider mode, but also allows it to make an atmospheric re-entry from space on its own without the aid of ballute packs or other external re-entry systems. Part of the waverider mode's form is composed of "wing binders" - which have already seen experimental use in another Project Zeta design, the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki - and a "tail binder," all of which not only serve as control surfaces for the waverider in atmospheric flight, but also contain extra thrusters and work as additional "balancing limbs" in mobile suit mode.

The Zeta Gundam's armament is fairly standard, composed of head vulcan guns, a beam rifle and a pair of beam sabers which double as forward-firing beam guns in waverider mode. However, the Zeta Gundam has an additional edge with its bio-sensor - a device developed by Anaheim in an attempt to build a smaller-scale, more economical psycommu system. Though the exact nature of the bio-sensor is unknown, its primary purpose is to allow a Newtype pilot to more easily interface with his mobile suit. The bio-sensor can also have a rather surprising side effect when the pilot is mentally and emotionally focused enough (usually when angry or upset) to cause the bio-sensor to amplify the power, speed and strength of the mobile suit for a short period of time. Kamille's strong emotions create this effect on more than one occasion - turning the Zeta Gundam into a truly unstoppable force when the Newtype pilot is mad enough.

The Zeta Gundam is delivered to the AEUG flagship carrier Argama in mid-UC 0087, where it serves as a frontline assault unit in the AEUG's war against the corrupt Titans. At the same time, Anaheim begins producing the simplified Zeta Plus series for AEUG's Earth-based support organization, Karaba. Following the end of the Gryps Conflict, the Zeta Gundam remains in service for another year, as the AEUG immediately finds itself plunged into the First Neo Zeon War and fighting for its very survival. Though Kamille is mentally incapacitated at the end of the Gryps Conflict, the Zeta Gundam finds itself in other hands, operated by the AEUG's various new pilots, including the equally powerful Newtype youth Judau Ashta. When inexperienced Judau uses the Zeta Gundam in a space battle with Mashymre Cello's AMX-103 Hamma-Hamma, the result is that the Zeta Gundam gets its head blown off. With no replacement head available, Judau's friend Iino Abbav decides to use the head of an old MS-06F Zaku II salvaged in space by Judau. This strange field modification earns it the nickname "Zeta Zaku." This field repair is used only once in battle until a replacement head can be built. The Zeta Gundam remains in service until the end of that war when it is critically damaged during a battle inside the Neo Zeon asteroid base Axis. The Zeta Gundam's design serves as the inspiration for several later Federation Forces units, including the RGZ-91 Re-GZ (from UC 0093's Second Neo Zeon War) and the RGZ-95 ReZEL (from UC 0096's Laplace Incident).

RX-93 ν Gundam

The ν Gundam was one of the most advanced mobile suits of its time in U.C. 0093, together with Char Aznable's MSN-04 Sazabi, designed and used by Amuro Ray himself during the Second Neo Zeon War. It was manufactured at Anaheim Electronics' Von Braun plant and completed in a short period of time (about three months) under the supervision of chief engineer October Saran. Its design is based on the average value of specifications of each successive generations of Gundam-type units from the the original Gundam to the ΖΖ Gundam, and updated with state-of-the-art technologies introduced at the time.
The ν Gundam's design also focuses on versatility and operational aspects as well as emphasis on reliability and durability for protracted battles. It adopts unitized parts that are designed according to EFF standards, except for the Psycoframe, for easier procurement of parts and materials and reducing special components as much as possible. It can be easily repaired due to maintenance feedback and combat data. In addition, it reflects Amuro Ray's experience as an MS pilot cultivated over the years.
Although its development was only partially completed at the time of its deployment, the ν Gundam proved itself to be a formidable mobile suit. The operating data obtained from the Silver Bullet (Funnel Test Type) was used in its development. It is the first Gundam-type machine to be equipped with Funnels. A newly developed MS control program is installed to account for the ν Gundam's center of mass during the separation and movement of the Funnel equipment.
Incorporating the Psycoframe technology secretly provided to Anaheim Electronics by Char Aznable of Neo Zeon, the ν Gundam was able to utilize Psycommu weapons and channel the emotions and mental energies of a suitable Newtype pilot. When combined with legendary ace pilot Amuro Ray's immense skill and experience, this powerful, state-of-the-art mobile suit was able to almost single-handedly hold the whole Neo Zeon force by just itself, and its Psycoframe was put to the test to determine the history of humanity living on earth

no. 1
RX-0 Unicorn Gundam

Produced as a part of the E.F.S.F's reorganization plan - the "UC Project " - the Unicorn Gundam is a revolutionary design and to be the main symbol of the "U.C. project's" main goal - to destroy any traces of Zeonism in the Earth Sphere - and thus not only does it features a Gundam design, but also incorporates an anti-Newtype system. However, when the Vist Foundation took control of the project, they turned the Gundam into a symbol of possibility by making it the key to finding Laplace's Box - the embodied hope of the Universal Century. Featuring the most advanced mobile suit technology of the time, the machine's performance is unmatched.
Incorporating test data obtained from the experimental MSN-06S Sinanju Stein, the entire frame is lined with psyco-frame receptors, drastically increasing the responsiveness of the unit and allowing it to be piloted like an extension of the pilot's body. In some cases, this responsiveness is so high that it appears the suit acts on its own without any actions from the pilot. In addition, the Unicorn utilizes a special "La+ Program" OS and a system known as the "NT-D" (or Newtype Destroyer) which activates the suit's psyco-frame and dramatically increases the suit's performance.
In its normal mode, the Unicorn's head is similar in appearance to those of Londo Bell's mass-produced mobile suits, with the addition of a single, horn-like antenna extending from the forehead (hence the name "Unicorn"). In terms of its armaments in normal mode, the Unicorn is very lightly armed, with half of its built-in weaponry only being available in Destroy Mode.
Destroy Mode is the form the Unicorn Gundam takes when its NT-D System is activated. The transformation is marked by an expansion of the suit's frame. The armor seams separate and lock down into various hard-points, while the newly exposed psyco-frame emits a pinkish-red glow (attributed to a psyco-frame luminescence phenomenon). In this mode, the mobile suit becomes taller and its head transforms to one having standard Gundam features, the visor and face guard retracts into the head to reveal the mouth plate and the antenna splitting into a V-fin. In order to prevent its transformation being interrupted, its I-Field strength will be increased, at least temporary. Additionally a pair of beam Vulcan guns will be revealed on the shoulders, and two additional beam sabers will extend out of the backpack.
In this form, the suit's psyco-frame scans the pilot's thoughts and directly transmits them to the suit's drive system; in other words, the Unicorn can ultimately be controlled by the pilot's thoughts alone. The machine's performance - its mobility in particular - is dramatically increased when the NT-D is active partially due to the exposure and activation of six additional thrusters. In addition to the performance boost, the NT-D also allows the Unicorn to take control of an enemy's psycommu weapons. However, the stress placed on the mind by manipulating an object more than tenfold the size of an average human is extraordinary.
Even with the aid of the psyco-frame the pilot's mind can only endure roughly five minutes of operation before a safeguard is believed to activate, deactivating the psyco-frame and returning the mobile suit to its normal form. Furthermore, the system activates not according to the pilot's discretion, but automatically upon the detection of another Newtype. The system also directs the movement of the suit when active, and does not completely depend on the pilot for commands. By default, the system will automatically attempt to destroy any Newtype enemies it detects, but requires the pilot to give it a conscience so it does not merely become a killing machine.
