BoBoiBoy: The Movie is the highest-grossing local animated movie
BoBoiBoy: The Movie is now the highest-grossing Malaysian animated film which has made RM8mil at the box office.
It took the title away from Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula, which grossed RM6.2mil in 2009. BoBoiBoy: The Movie made RM8mil at the local box office, last week.
BoBoiBoy: The Movie was released on March 3 and has received rave reviews from critics and movie-goers.
It tells the story of a young boy who is granted the ability to manipulate elements like earth, wind, and fire. Boboiboy and a group of friends travel to an island to retrieve an ancient object with mysterious powers. They come across an alien treasure hunter who plans to harness the object’s power for evil. The chase is on for BoBoiboy and his friends to prevent the object from going into the wrong hands.
Fun fact: BoBoiboy is voiced by a girl – 16-year-old Nur Fathiah Diaz.Other voice talents include Nur Sarah Alisya, Yap Ee Jean, and Fara Fauzana.
BoBoiBoy: The Movie is the cinematic spin-off from BoBoiBoy the animated series which premiered in 2011 on TV3. Produced by Animonsta Studios, the series is aired in countries like Indonesia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
It has also spawned a series of merchandise such as action figures, clothing, and comic books.
BoBoiBoy: The Movie joins the list of Malaysian films which have made millions at the local box office this year alone such as Munafik (RM11mil so far), Mat Moto (ended its run with RM4.3mil) and OlaBola (currently at RM16mil).
BoBoiBoy: The Movie is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
